The Bells

 

앤 애드워드와 클리프 애드워드를 주축으로 1965년 몬트리올에서 결성된 5인조 소프트 팝 그룹이다. 

첨에는 5명의 멤버로 "더 파이브 벨즈"로 이름 짓고 활동 했으며 잠시동안 건반주자로 유명한 프랭크 밀즈가 참여하기도 했다.

이들의 최고 힛트곡은 당연히 "Stay Awhile"이며 그들 나름대로 해석하여 부른 "Proud Mary", "Rain"도 또 다른 맛이 느껴 지기도 한다.
Luck 'N Lollipops (1971)과 Studio "A" (1972)를 발표한후 1973년 the BELLS 는 해산 되었으며, 클리프 애드워드는 80년대 초반까지 솔로활동을 지속했다.

이 음반은 한때 <Fly, Little White Dove, Fly>라는 타이틀로 발매되기도 했다. LP 라벨에도 'Fly, Little White Dove, Fly'로 표기되어 있으며, A면 첫곡도 ''Fly, Little White Dove, Fly''이다.

이 음반을 녹음할 당시 The Bells는 클리프 애드워드를 주축으로한 6인조 구성이었다. 기억으로는 여성 보컬이 잭키 랠프로 기억하고

있었는데 정확한지는 모른다.

70년대 초반 사이키델릭과 하드록이 판치는 혼란속에서 마치 피어오르는 한송이의 꽃처럼 이들은 아메리칸 포크의 진한 여운을 초록색 커버에 담아 발표했다.

맑고 청명한 여성 보컬이 너무나 유혹적이며, 때로는 재치있고 유머러스한 곡으로 친근한 여운을 남긴다.

대표곡은 유명한 ''Stay Awhile''과 이어지는''Maxwell's Siver Hammer''이지만 싱글로도 발표된 첫곡 ''Fly, Little White Dove, Fly''도 사랑스러운 곡이다.
